Brisbane to Toowoomba Buses

October 25th, 2005

Update 24/06/2006: I have written a more up to date recap of this information, it’s here.

Rod and I have been ferrying ourselves between Brisbane and Toowoomba on a fairly regular basis and with the introduction of some cheap bus fairs, it has generally been without the need for cars. (Mine is parked in the Garage with one wheel off). Because there is no decent place on the net to find this information, I’m going to post it here.

There are 3 services, McCafferties/Greyhound, MaxExpress and Suncoast. The McCafferties buses leave on the hour every hour. They are expensive, about $23 for students one way.

MaxExpress runs at 11am, 2pm and 4pm from Brisbane and 8am, 11am, and 2pm from Toowoomba. The cost for these is $18 and $15 for concessions, it is a direct service and takes about an hour and a half.

Suncoast runs the same times as MaxExpress but leaves 10 minutes earlier and they are $14 fullfare, $13 for concessions and if you book on the net you will get a dollar off.

Update: I’ve spelt a few things wrong, apologies goto McCafferty’s.

    Hi,

I have just been looking for the buses that you have referred to that go between Brisbane and Toowoomba. You and anyone who receives this email might like to be informed that every service going between the two cities has been either bought out or forced out of the market by Greyhound. Cheap bus fare is now $25. They have a complete monopoly on the bus routes. I am not very happy at all since I am a student and am just getting ready to go to my best friend’s 21st whom I haven’t seen for nearly 3 years and I might not even be able to afford the fare!! Grrrrrr! I am glad you have this blog though, other than outdated it is very useful :)

    God bless
    Nik

    Hi All
I read with great interest, some of the blog entries regarding Toowoomba - Brisbane bus travel. I started Toowoomba Transit Coaches in May 2006, several months after the demise of Max Express. Toowoomba Transit is entirely independent, and has no affiliation’s with any other organisation.

We offer very competitive fares, starting with our $16 Web-Only fare, available on our website, followed by our Multi-Trip 10, and Multi-Trip 25 passes for the customer who travels very frequently. And to top this off, on Tuesdays, ALL seats on ALL of our services are just $10. No catches. No gimmicks.

For those wanting to get through to the airport, we can offer an all inclusive ticket for $31 (flat rate) which includes your Toowoomba - Brisbane coach ticket with us, as well as a ticket with partner Brisbane’s Airtrain, which will whisk you to either International or Domestic terminals in Brisbane, just 22 minutes after you board it.

All Toowoomba Transit services are non-stop, and do not service intermediate towns, so it is indeed the genuine Non-Stop Express.

If you would like any further info, please visit our website: http://www.ttcoaches.com.au or alternately, contact one of my friendly team on (07) 46 99 4700 for any further information.

I concur with Hamish with regards to his organisation. Toowoomba Transit coaches are the fastest and cheapest way between Toowoomba and Roma Street. And they even give you a bottle of water for free. I implore all travellers to use them wherever possible.

Thankyou for your kind words Ladies and Gents! You may also like to know that I have recently (January 14th) introduced some more new services, some of which are cheaper again. Essentially, there are now ten services per day Monday - Friday (5 each way), and a small change to Sundays, which, has been the result of consistent customer feedback.

Essentially, it is now possible to travel between Toowoomba and Brisbane for as little as $10 - with an internet fare on one of our “economy” services. The difference is that these extra economy services are operated with a smaller 21 seat bus, and doesnt come with the trimmings of our premium services. These economy services also provide limited stops, upon request.

Due to rising fuel, wage, interest rate, and general expenses, Ive had to increase the fares on the premium services to help cover general operating expenses. In light of this, “$10 Tuesday” no longer exists, but I have replaced this with $10 every day (Mon - Fri) web only on new services, or $13 over the phone / walk up. Additionally, we are also encouraging customers to take advantage of “free bike carriage” on our premium services, which they can then use in Brisbane if they wish to go the extra mile and be “extra green”!

Please refer to our updated website http://www.ttcoaches.com.au for further details, or call my office on (07) 46 99 4700 during office hours.

    Kindest Regards to all.
    Hamish.

Fantastic!! I’m so glad I found this website. My grandparents live in Toowoomba and I find it really hard to go visit them. I hate travelling either McCafferty’s or Greyhounds. They’re always rude. Thanks Hamish for sticking to your guns and supplying a “local” means of travel.
