Dave Winer a Notorious Curmudgeon

In the recent Fortune Article about Microsoft, they refer to Dave Winer as a notorious curmudgeon. I wonder if Dave is honoured or offended about this branding.

I know I would take it as a compliment.

iPod and FM or Satellite Radio

Dave and I have been discussing why Apple should or shouldn’t release an iPod with FM radio, (but it really also applies to Satellite.) The long and the short of it is, if they sell 2% more devices, and it creates less incentive to browse the iTunes music store, then Apple loses out.

It’s entertaining because of Dave Winer’s predictions. While I’m not really sure how serious he is about them, there certainly is a little bit of possibility that they will occur. Regardless, I can’t see the radio appearing on an iPod anytime soon.

Making the Trains Run on Time

Dave Winer has sold Weblogs.com to Verisign for from what I can tell an undisclosed sum. He cites the sheer size scalabilty problems he has encountered as reason for it. That’s good enough for me, but his comments remind me of The Whitlams, Blow up the Pokies.

And I wish I, wish I knew the right words

Firefox and Camino on the Apple

Dave Winer has bought an Apple so he can work on the OPML editor for it. He’s complaining about how much he hates using Safari. I’m not sure whether or not it’s because he hates Apple or because of the actual software. That’s his perogative. There are 2 extremely good options other than IE or Safari. You may have heard of Firefox and Camino is a Gecko based browser for the Apple. They are both worth a look.
